Rotary is a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation, which receives gifts from corporations, foundations and friends. Checks should be made out to The Rotary Club of La Jolla Foundation. All donations are tax deductible. We encourage people to support our efforts to help young students in our community. The Rotary Club of La Jolla currently awards scholarships to approximately 75 graduating seniors and college students totaling $150,000 per year. This has been a Rotary Club of La Jolla tradition for over 15 years! SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMSROTARY CLUB OF LA JOLLA FOUNDATION Rotary Club of La Jolla Foundation Scholarship Application (PDF) Rotary/Riford Scholarship Application (PDF) STRIVE SCHOLARSHIPS go to selective students graduating from the Garfield High School in San Diego, a high school devoted to remedial efforts for students who have failed in other schools, but are thought worthy of being given a second chance. Students making the greatest advances in this new environment are given scholarships in support of their first years in trade schools or community colleges after graduation from Garfield. TIJUANA ROTARY YOUTH SCHOLARSHIPS are an invention of Rotary Club of La Jolla in collaboration with Club Rotario Tijuana La Mesa. The scholarships are awarded to 6th grade students in poor districts in Tijuana who have demonstrated superior academic and leadership performance and who wish to continue their schooling through the 12th grade. To enhance their educational experience, the students have been organized into an Association of Rotary Youth Scholars, which meets weekly in a Scholars' Lab in Tijuana. Emphasis is on instruction in computer usage and in facility in the English language. GARFIELD HIGH SCHOOL MENTORING PROGRAM involves Rotarians as mentors to the graduates of Garfield High School who attend San Diego City College. These students in turn are counselors to Garfield students. Our primary goal is to offer guidance and advice regarding career selection, character development, work and work ethic, education, and to "just be a friend". Through this actvity we help this group of college students and help them aid the Garfield High students. |
